The Process of making CBD Distillate
The extraction of CBD from the plant material
Our CBD Distillate based products are, as the name suggests are, made using a distillation process. Here we will give a basic explanation of that process. The oil is extracted from the plant using Carbon Dioxide (CO2 ) during this process. Pressurised chambers and pumps are manipulated to pressurise the CO2 keeping it at a specific temperature. CO2 is then introduced to the section holding the plant material, the hemp. The result of the CO2 introduction to the chamber having the plant material is that it then causes the oils contained within it to separate from the plant mass (trim). Once this stage is complete, the oil and residual CO2 get passed to a separator. It is here that the oil and CO2 get separated by pressure. At this point, the oil is extracted from the separator, and we have our finished distilled CBD product ready for use.
The control aspects of this type of extraction make for very pure CBD oil tailored to specific potency levels; thus, CBD distillate oils are becoming very popular.
What is a Broad Spectrum Product
How much does this CBD differ from Full Spectrum oils?
When CBD oil is defined as a Broad Spectrum product what this generally refers to is an oil which has been extracted from the hemp plant and has undergone further processing to remove certain compounds, namely THC. This is generally done to prevent any legal complications or issues arising from having the psychoactive THC compound contained within the product. When oil is first extracted it will normally contain levels of THC, this is compound responsible for getting people a ‘high” when cannabis is smoked. In some CBD oils small amounts of THC are left in the oil and not processed any further and these types of oils are referred to as "Full Spectrum" oils. However, a quick look at many different CBD oils sold in the U.K. that are classified as "Full Spectrum" will show that the amounts of THC contained are minuscule and will have very little impact at all. Our lab tested Distillate oil shows higher levels of compounds than a lot of these so called Full Spectrum distillate CBD options do.
